Saturday, May 19, 2024
8am-2pm @Cirque de Vol
Cost: $300

This workshop will prepare you for rigging safely in a variety of environments. We'll introduce common safety equipment used for performance and studio rigging, and discuss their proper inspection, maintenance, and storage. As a comprehensive and hands-on workshop we’ll learn a variety of knots useful for expanding your range of rigging possibilities. Additionally, we’ll cover anchor building, vector and load forces, minimum breaking strengths, and discuss risk mitigation and avoidance strategies. There’ll be a brief discussion on the law and how it pertains to professional aerialists and studios.

Class is open to all levels. Those already with experience and knowledge are sure to receive a comprehensive review, filling in any possible gaps in knowledge base and skills. There’ll also be time for discussion and demonstration of advanced anchoring and rigging concepts.

Students are encouraged to bring their own rigging equipment for discussion, though all equipment necessary for the class will be provided. A one hour lunch break we be given.

Belly Dance Workshops
May 11-12

Learn the fundamentals of the tantalizing art of belly dance on day 1 of this two day workshop series. On day 2, we will fuse the fundamentals with creative prompts and cues to create the outline for your own belly dance fusion choreography. Technique will be covered briefly in day 2 but at a much faster pace and participants are encouraged to attend day 1 to get the most out of day 2.

Ages 15 and up

Fundamental Belly Dance Techniques
May 11

12:30-2pm

Learn fundamental belly dance moves and technique in this traditional belly dance workshop. We will focus on slides, circles, figure 8s and undulations. We will then build on these basic moves by combining them together in creative and fun ways. This workshop is great if you are a complete beginner to belly dance or you want to brush up on your technique.

Creative Choreography Belly Dance Fusion
May 12

11:30am-1pm

This workshop is great for building confidence in creating your own choreography, whether it be the groundwork to your aerial act, or perhaps an addition to aerial poses (think head slides or snake arms or chest circles) during an act, or for any other dance practices. We will focus on fusing traditional belly dance movements with contemporary movements that we will create during the workshop by using different image prompts, pacing (slow/fast) textures (soft/harsh), level changes and even layering of movements.

"Ever since I can remember, dance has always been the thing that makes my spirit come alive. With ballet, I found grace, with Cuban Salsa, I found pure fun, with aerial silks, I found ferocity and now, with belly dance, I feel openness and gentleness. Belly dance fuels my every day with magic and teaches me how to love my body by being gentle, focused and curious about how it moves. I teach both Raqs Sharqi and Tribal Fusion belly dance. I love Raqs Sharqi for the gorgeous and gentle foundation it provides and I love Tribal Fusion for the creativity it allows. I am so excited to share my love of this hypnotizing dance with you!" ~Elisa

Meet Your Photographer, Daniel Clarke Cunningham:

Born and raised in Charlotte NC, Daniel started his career after school assisting photographers from all over the world. He has grown into a photographer that can get results no matter the circumstance.

Daniel’s approach to image capture is one of vision, creativity and collaboration balanced with craft, technique and use of time and resources. He often looks to find a real life connection with his subjects. This can range from life experiences to shared interests in popular culture. Daniel aims to disarm his subject and the possible hesitance that comes from being photographed. Opening the subject to reveal their true self.

Daniel has been photographing aerialists since 2017 and has developed a style that showcases the strength and beauty of aerial arts. Whether it be simple portraits on white or more complex settings like rain. Daniel strives to make the very best image possible.
