About Gena DuBose:

In 2010 Gena began practicing Aerial Arts in Asheville, NC. From Trapeze and Silks, she moved into Lyra and fell in love with this circular apparatus. After training at Aerial Space, she moved to California where she trained at San Francisco Circus Center and Kinetic Arts in Oakland. She then moved to Orlando, FL where she trained with Jennifer Drabik at Orlando Area Arts.

In addition to her training in Florida, Gena spent her time at a flying trapeze school learning under Efe Ilkay, where he taught her how to work the board and also how to fly. This taught Gena a lot about body awareness and solidified her interest in making a career out of performing arts. While in Florida, Gena became inspired to work harder and received her Pilates training through STOTT which contributed further to her passion for learning about the body and how it moves. Gena then went on to complete her Yoga teacher training in 2016.

Gena likes to focus on anatomy and alignment, a concept of body and spatial awareness that she brings to her teachings and performances. Specifically, in Lyra classes, Gena emphasizes choreography, sequencing, and lyrical flow.

Gena Marie (DuBose) is the Creative Director of SOAR Aerial Dance, a collective organization for movement artists based in Durham.
